Hi! I got an idea to do a community website. I want to create a forum for it.
So Can I know about how did Infinityfree make this? Did they make it from PHP, Plugin, etc. So Please provide some Info about that.
This forum is powered by Discourse, which is quite big and relies on many languages that are not supported on InfinityFree hosting, such as Ruby on Rails.
If you want to start with a nice forum, you could use Flarum.
So I’m working on a simple wordpress website. I want to add “Flarum” As a Page. So Is it a plugin or something else?
It’s a complete PHP powered site software of its own, separate from WordPress.
That being said, there are forum plugins for WordPress such as wpForo. I’ve never used it though, or any other WordPress forum plugin for that matter. I’m just pointing out that they exisit. Just make sure that whatever you use falls in line with InfinityFree’s terms of service and has low enough resource usage to run on free hosting.
well you can find some free lightweight forum source code online for your website, i recommend you to find it on github
Flarum is a standalone forum package, it’s not a WordPress plugin.
If you want your forum to be a WordPress plugin, you could look into bbPress, which is exactly that.
But most people just have their forum separate from their website on a different URL. We also haven’t embedded Discourse into the client area.
I wouldn’t build my website on random stuff people put on GitHub. Tried and true forum suites are more rich in features and are generally more actively being maintained.
I tried the “simple and lightweight” forum software once (specifically esoTalk, which is like a predecessor to Flarum). At some point, you’re going to run into bugs or missing features that will make you regret not choosing something more common.
im talking about mybb and phpbb, it is free, open source and run really good, also it is available for free on github so you can download it free, but ofc you still have to check if the forum source code that you use is legit or not before you actually use it
I’ll try BBpress
If you’re referring specific software, I suggest you maybe refer to the specific software next time, rather than send people into the woods and just tell them to look on GitHub.
Besides that:
- If forum software is on GitHub, that’s mainly relevant for people looking to contribute to the software. They may not offer downloadable packages or clear installation instructions on GitHub, and only share those on their own website. This is the case for both phpBB and MyBB.
- The easiest way to setup phpBB or MyBB is to install them with Softaculous.
I tried BBpress and WPForo but they’re looking bad. I want to make a clean forum like you.
Discorce that’s what Infinity Free use here, can’t run on free hosting. I dont think it would even run on iFastNet’s premium hosting.
I like PHPBB myself but your milage may vary
It looks pretty bad tho. Anyway I thought to stop this. So I’ve no ideas right now. If someone has please let me know
As I and others have already told you: Flarum is the forum software that’s most similar to Discourse and you can run on our hosting.
The only thing you probably won’t like is that it’s not a WordPress plugin. If you limit your search to only forums that are WordPress plugins, you’re skipping out on many great forum suites.
So I think you need to make a choice:
- If you want to have a forum like this one, use Flarum, but accept that it won’t be part of your WordPress site.
- If you want a forum to be integrated with WordPress, you’ll probably have to pick between bbPress and wpForo, which may not be as appealing as Flarum or Discourse.
These are the options that exist. The final alternative is to create a new Disource/Flarum style forum plugin for WordPress, but that’s probably not realistic.
So first, Is Flarum free? I mean no limitations. Also Can I approach it like this. creating a subdomain and I will add button to go to that subdomain. In that subdomain I’ll install Flarum
What did you find online that suggested there are limitations?
The answers to many of your questions can be found online, I highly recommend you use Google first, it saves both of us time.
Oh sorry, I was in the forum while infinity free Replied, So that’s why I sent the message directly in the forum
how is ur forum project going?
gridforum.rf.gd
I made it.
