Other Information

Since a few days our files (uploaded to a subfolder of the htdocs folder) keep getting deleted.
These are csv files and only a few kb big.
Why is this happening suddenly?

Greetings Steve

Welcome to the InfinityFree community forum! Good to have you here.

  • Most people answering here are volunteers. They’re often the fastest source of help. Admin (the only staff member) checks in about once a day for issues on our end.
  • Volunteers can’t see your account or website. Share what you actually see, like error messages and what happens when you try something. That’s more useful than your theory of what’s wrong.
  • AI tools often get InfinityFree wrong. If a volunteer’s advice differs from what an AI told you, please try the volunteer’s suggestion first.
  • Solving an issue is a joint effort. Try the suggestions you get and report back what happened.

Beep boop, I’m a bot! I dug through the forum to get you started. I sometimes get things wrong though, so do with this what you will until a human has a look.

Your files are small CSVs in a subfolder of htdocs, so the usual size and location causes don’t obviously apply. Can you tell me the full path the files end up in, for example htdocs/data/file.csv, and how they get there (FTP, the online file manager, or a script on your site)? With that I can tell whether the folder is the problem or something else is.

I found an article on why files get deleted after upload. It lists the causes the servers delete files for automatically:

  • The file isn’t inside an htdocs folder.
  • The file type is blocked.
  • The file is flagged by the automatic malware scan.
  • The file is over the size limit.

Your file type and size look fine, so it would be worth checking the first and third points. If the files sit outside htdocs, or if they’re deleted right after a script writes them, the path and upload method should show which it is.

Welcome to the forum. Have you read this goodness to see if it applies

It’s important to remember that you can’t use your infinity free account for serving data or files, only websites.

It may be that CSV files have been restricted as they imply an API. (I’m not sure on this point because I’ve not tried, this is just me thinking through the problem out loud)

Depending what you’re trying to do you might be better tweaking your code to use a database and using the built-in database system.

Another thing to note, having looked at your site it looks like you’ve built it using the site pro builder. When you fire that up it overrides any pre-existing index file or other files that clash with the website you’re building so that could be part of the problem as well.
