Failed directory privacy

Website URL

https://www.dfellows.rf.gd/private

Error Message

This is a directory protected by a username and password. After 3 years it has stopped accepting the username and or password. I deleted the username in the control panel directory privacy. I recreated the username with a new password. After failing twice it gives me a 403 forbidden error. Can you help? Thanks. Doug.

Other Information

Hi.

Please use file manager (Monsta FTP)

  1. come inside that dir (private)

  2. delete these two files Screenshot 2023-09-28 110912

Note - Just in case, check if maybe you have some important code in that specific .htaccess file other than the code for dir privacy (how? right-click → edit → read the content), so save it for backup.

And don’t use the privacy dir from the control panel anymore
please use the one from the client area

and select the desired dir, user and pass there.

Did as you suggested. Used the file manager to delete the two files in the protected directory. Went to the client area. Accessed the directory privacy feature. Selected the directory. Created a username and password. Went to the protected directory and got a 403 forbidden error message.

it’s normal - because you don’t have an index file inside

but you can:

edit the existing .htaccess file and add Options +Indexes line of code below the existing code (see line 11)

save !

Your directions were spot on, concise and thorough. I did not look in my original .htaccess file before deleting it. I had a bunch of directory listing styling in it. I should have downloaded it. It’s been years since I created it. I’ll recover it when I get my desktop set up again; if I’m lucky; but I have it styled good enough for now. Thanks. Doug.
