The WordPress admin area shows: “Cannot select database. The database server could be connected to (which means your username and password are okay) but the if0_43020415_wp58 database could not be selected.”
I have not made any changes to the database settings. I cannot access my WordPress admin panel to restore from a backup.
Could you please help me understand:
Why the database if0_43020415_wp58 cannot be selected?
Is the database still present on the server?
Does the user 43020415_2 have the correct permissions for this database?
Thank you
Other Information
The site was working normally, then suddenly stopped working, even though no actions or changes were made on it.
There have been a number of reports concerning databases that are missing, notably WordPress databases created with Softaculous. I don’t know what happened to them yet, but clearly something has happened, so I’ve submitted a request upstream to look into it.
Thank you for the update. I understand you are looking into this, but I need to be direct: many of us have lost significant work. My own site (beauty26.freedev.app) is now inaccessible because of a missing database. I made no changes — it simply stopped working.
I have several clear questions that I believe the whole community needs answered:
1. What exactly happened to the databases? What was the technical cause?
2. Why were WordPress databases created with Softaculous specifically affected?
3. Is there any chance to recover the missing data? If yes, what is the recovery plan and the estimated timeframe?
4. How often does this type of failure happen on InfinityFree? Is it a recurring problem?
5. What are the real consequences for users? Will our databases be fully restored, or should we assume the data is permanently lost?
6. If we have our own backups, can we restore them ourselves once the database service is back? What is the correct procedure?
7. What measures will be taken to prevent this from happening again?
8. How and when will affected users be notified about the resolution?
I understand that you are waiting for an upstream response. However, for many of us this is not just a temporary glitch — it is the loss of months or years of work. Please provide as much transparency as possible. A clear timeline and regular status updates would help all of us.
We’ll have to wait for somebody at iFastNet (InfinityFree’s partner, who owns and operates the actual hosting servers) can get back to Admin before most of those questions can be answered.
Yes absolutely. There’s an official guide on doing so:
Like I said before: I don’t know what happened to the databases. I’m still waiting on a reply from iFastNet.
I don’t know if they are really gone, and I don’t know why it happened. If the databases can be recovered, I don’t know how long that will take.
But I can tell you that this is a new phenomenon. There might have been some loss to databases in the past due to server or storage failure, and databases from Softaculous being hidden was a common occurrence.
The questions you have are relevant, but I don’t have the answers to them. I’ll share more information as soon as I have something to share.
The accounts I know are affected are all less than a week old. And this involves Softaculous installations, meaning the sites were installed only a few days ago.
It’s impossible to say at this time, but there is a chance that this issue only affected a small number of recent accounts. And if so, then claiming losing “months or years of work” doesn’t really apply.
All of this just confirms: we don’t know yet. We don’t know what happened, and we don’t know which accounts were impacted.
So let’s just wait and see what the investigation turns up before making claims about people losing their life’s work.
Just wanted to post an update here in case you didn’t see the issue on the status page.
The issue was identified as a database permission issue. The bug has been identified and resolved, and the fix has been retroactively applied to affected websites.
This means that the databases that had disappeared were not actually lost. They have been recovered, are fully accessible, and your website should now be working again.
Thank you very much!
Everything is working now.
Is it possible to contact you to look at your resource’s design themes?
I need some help in details here. I still don’t understand anything about how everything works. https://beauty26.freedev.app/
