Custom Domain Not Resolving After 72+ Hours (NS Set Correctly, Query Refused)

Hello,

I added my custom domain to my InfinityFree hosting account on April 21, and I configured the nameservers to ns1/ns2.infinityfree.com

More than 72 hours have now passed, but the domain is still not resolving publicly.

My temporary InfinityFree subdomain works correctly, so the hosting account itself seems active.

However, when trying to access my custom domain, the browser returns DNS errors such as:

  • DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NXDOMAIN

I also ran DNS tests:

nslookup my-domain 1.1.1.1
Result: Server failed

nslookup my-domain 8.8.8.8
Result: Server failed / timeout

nslookup my-domain ns1.infinityfree.com
Result: Query refused

ICANN Lookup already shows the correct nameservers, so domain delegation seems completed.

Could you please check whether the DNS zone for my custom domain has been properly created and activated on your nameservers?

Thank you very much in advance!

Might be worth checking with your domain registra if there’s a problem on their end

Edit
This DNS checker suggests that’s that’s an issue with DNS propergation

Thanks for your reply, man.

I already contacted my domain registrar (NIC Argentina), and this was their response translated to English:

Good morning,

We verified that the DNS nameservers are already published. NIC Argentina does not provide hosting services and therefore does not handle propagation. Please contact your hosting provider.

If you have any further questions, feel free to contact us again.

So according to the registrar, the nameservers are correctly published on their side, and they advised me to contact the hosting provider.

That is why I’m trying to understand whether the issue could be related to the DNS zone not being fully active yet on the InfinityFree nameservers.

Also, direct queries to ns1.infinityfree.com for the domain return Query refused.

And thanks for the link! I checked the DNS lookup tool in detail. It shows no A, NS, SOA, MX or TXT records at all, but it does return multiple CAA records for the domain.

That seems unusual, because a working domain should normally return at least NS and SOA records.

So it looks like the domain exists, but the authoritative DNS zone may be incomplete or not responding correctly yet.

Could this indicate an issue with the DNS zone on the hosting nameservers rather than normal propagation?

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I have checked your domain and it seems to be pointing to our nameservers. But there is also another very clear issue I see: your domain is not added to any hosting account. You must add your domain to an account to be able to setup a website on it.

Once the domain is added, the correct DNS records will be setup in our nameservers which will solve the issue. Note that it may still take up to 72 hours after that due to DNS caching.

Thank you so much for your reply! I don’t know how I could have missed that. I just did what you suggested, and now everything seems to be working properly. I was able to access the site, and it’s already started propagating on dnschecker.org. Thank you so much for your help!
