CNAME Creation Error

Hello,

I have created a “news” website on GitHub. Though it is not an organization website so it is githubusers.github.io/repository/

I have tried to make a CNAME file with “news” then my free subdomain, cp3.ct.ws. But when I add a destination it gives an error message stating in DNS records. “The target does not look like a domain name.” I have tried it in the control panel to but it still did not work? Any tips?

Can you share the exact record you are trying to add? This is public information after you create the record anyways so there is not any harm in sharing here.

Also, this is worth a read as my understanding of your post is that you are trying to use CNAME records incorrectly.

CNAME records let you point one DNS hostname to another DNS hostname. But githubusers.github.io/repository/ is not a DNS hostname, it’s an (incomplete) website URL. So of course that will not work.

If you want to point a subdomain of your website to a GitHub Pages URL, please follow this guide:

Thank you.

I will just switch to Cloudflare. There URLS are complete.

Please answer the question that I asked if you would like my assistance.

Also, please see the GitHub article that Admin posted, it’s a good resource.
