Other Information

Looking for the expertise of those with more experience than myself. I’ve finally decided to take my side hustle online. But obviously, this means I’ll need a cartz\store script. I’ve seen there are loads on the script installer, so wanted to get everyones opinions on which ones work best and which are easiest to use\customise?

Thanks in advance

Dan

If you’re going the pre-built route, I would just go WooCommerce. I’ve tried a bunch of open source platforms a year or two ago (both on softaculous and GitHub), and none met my needs/expectations (Woo did not either, but it was the closest).

If your going custom, Stripe has a pretty good API (Avoid square, I think they hate developers) but their platform is not the best (still looking for alternatives myself)

Yeah, I’m not a fan of WP. For how beginner friendly they market it and how often it’s used you think it would be a little easier to get a good secure site running.

I’m taking a look at opencart too. See which I prefer

If you are going to install OpenCart, refer to these docs to help:

Been trying a few diferent ones… and they all look pretty much the same  and none are particularly user friendly to get up and running

I’m pretty much ruled out Woo Commerce (I really can’t get my head around WordPress) and PrestaShop, everything just fell apart as soon as I tried to use it.

trying CE Phoenix next… see how it goes

stripe?

Stripe don’t provide a cart as far as I can tell.

I think I’ve got PrestaShop working now, but thanks for the suggestion

They do, but it’s not standalone, you need other software to go with it. Stripe is a payment processing platform not a website host.

That might explain why I couldn’t find it.

I know, by that I meant I was looking for a solution where the cart and payments worked together to save me some (a lot) of work. I used to use their card machine for taking payments at events where I was selling goods. but the fees were too high for the amount of sales I was making.

Just curious, does infinityfree allows payment scripts such as the ones listed above to runn on their free hosting plan?

Yes, there’s no rule against it. Just make sure that the script itself and what you’re selling don’t violate the terms of service in any way.

Yeh, I looked into it at depths before I considered hosting my shop here. And to be honest, its only a temporary solution. Once I’m up and running, I’m going to move to premium hosting, I just can’t afford that until I start selling haha
