Yeah, that’s not the right IP address. Someone or something is messing with the DNS for ftpupload.net. Can you please try the hostname ftp.epizy.com instead? Or just the IP address 185.27.134.11?

Tried ftp.epizy.com and it said the certificate couldn’t be verified. I went ahead anyway, and it connected:

That’s normal. The main FTP hostname is ftpupload.net, and that’s the only domain name for which the SSL certificate is valid.

But you can see the certificate is valid for ftpupload.net, so you know you’re connected to our server.

That’s not the IP address of our FTP server.

Doing a WHOIS lookup, that IP seems to be from OpenDNS. Are you using OpenDNS resolvers? If so, they may have listed ftpupload.net as harmful and are hijacking your DNS to “protect” you.

Can you please check if it’s possible to add an exception to OpenDNS? Or just use a DNS resolver that doesn’t restrict your network access?

The ip address of your FTP server is broken, and someone told me to use this new one, which is now also broken. It was working before. I have no idea what an OpenDNS resolver is, so I’m probably not using one. Greenreader9 says iFastNet is upgrading their servers, but then withdrew that response, so maybe that’s not it. All I know is that it won’t transfer files anymore.

One other thing. I went to my website yesterday, and it initially said I was low on bandwidth or something. Could that be it? I reloaded and my website was then able to load. It loads today as well. Also, does backing up my files consume my server allowance (bandwidth and such)?

The logs show that for you ftpupload.net resolved to the IP address 146.112.61.107 for you. Using any DNS lookup tool online should tell you that ftpupload.net points to the IP address 185.27.134.11.

It’s not our IP address that’s broken. You’re not connecting to our IP address at all. That’s why you’re unable to connect to your FTP account.

A WHOIS lookup on the IP address shows it’s owned by OpenDNS. OpenDNS is an operator of DNS resolvers, which also does DNS level filtering of harmful sites. It’s likely that our FTP server hostname ended up on their blocklist.

Even if YOU did not actively choose to use OpenDNS, that doesn’t mean you’re not using it. Your network administrator or internet provider could also have configured it.

Perhaps using a different device on a different network works? Or perhaps you can configure your computer to use Google Public DNS, Clouflare’s 1.1.1.1 service or another DNS resolver of your choice.

Those issues were resolved, and the issue you’re seeing do not match the things we saw during the outages.

This is 0% related to the outages we had and 100% an issue on your side.

I don’t know what “I was low on bandwidth or something” means. Can you please share EXACTLY what you saw? Actual error messages are a lot easier to check than vague descriptions of error messages.

I used the ip address, deleted my queue of files from my last successful transfer, and retried the download. It worked. I never finished my download from last time, so there were queued files, and they wouldn’t download from the correct ip address for some reason. But deleting the queue and trying again worked.
