Cannot log into WordPress after restoring with UpdraftPlus

Error Message

Hello,

I restored my WordPress website using UpdraftPlus. The restore completed successfully, but I can no longer log in to WordPress.

What I’ve already checked:

  • WordPress was installed using Softaculous.
  • Login page: https://animations.infinityfreeapp.com/wp%20-%20animation/wp-login.php
  • Username “animations” exists in the wp4b_users table.
  • Password has been reset through phpMyAdmin using both MD5 and the normal WordPress hash.
  • Created a second administrator account (admin2) directly in the database with administrator privileges, but it also cannot log in.
  • wp-config.php points to the correct database and uses the wp4b_ table prefix.
  • siteurl and home values are correct.
  • The login page always says: “The password you entered for the username is incorrect.”

The website itself is working, but I cannot access the WordPress dashboard after the UpdraftPlus restore.

Can someone help me identify what could be causing this?

Just for the record: we do NOT recommend to use any backup or migration plugins to move a WordPress site. The most reliable method is to simply move the entire files and databases as is. Just moving the entire installation is easier than trying to transplant the content.

This is the method that both we and WordPress recommend:

If you’re committed to going forward with this restore method, I can try to help.

Checking your site, it looks like a freshly installed WordPress site to me.

If it is an empty WordPress site and you’re having trouble logging in, why not just delete the installation and reinstall it with Softaculous? That’s a lot more straight forward than hacking the database.
