i am trying to change write permissions to a folder with filezila and I get error 550

No, changing permission sets on directories and files is not supported on free accounts.

The permissions are automatically set to 755, so no need to change them.

I think you can on premium, but that’s offered by iFastNet not InfinityFree, so don’t take my word for it.

Ironically, the way the housing is set up here, 775 and 755 are functionally the same… But I know a lot of scripts still want 775…

Unfortunately there’s nothing we can do to change that. To explain chmod permissions the 3 digits represent: file owner permissions group permissions other users permissions 7 is read write & execute 5 is read & execute 4 is read only The only process that will touch your files here (and on most shared hosting) is run as your account.
