Cannot add MX records to other domain

Hello,

When i try to add MX records to my domains (i have multiple on 1 account), it seems like i only can set them for one domain (the first domain i created). This shouldn’t be because of DNS propagation, since the domain has been registered for more then 10 days around now.

(these have been edited but that should be obvious)

Is this a free hosting limitation?

This is some sort of problem in the control panel (i believe), but you can still add them by opening the client area, finding your domain, and pressing the manage button. Then, go to the DNS zone and add them.

Thanks! Tried that, but got this error:

Which is wierd, since the other one i own is also a free subdomain, the only difference is that this one is on ct.ws (the other one is on rf.gd) (sorry if i am unclear)

My bad! I was trying with another domain which was a custom domain. Now I tried with another free subdomain instead and now I see that error. It appears that you can only add MX record for the main subdomain of your hosting account and not others (unless it is a custom domain).

EDIT!: This no longer works due to a vPanel update. This will remain for history. :slightly_frowning_face:

I have found that if you want to add MX Records, the (sub)domain has to be added as an Addon Domain instead of a Subdomain in the Control Panel.

(Note that this will only work with main subdomains, such as example.rf.gd or something like that)

Go to the Subdomains section in the Control Panel, then look for your subdomain. Copy the Subdomain link, then Remove it.

Go to the Addon Domains section, then paste the Subdomain link into the box that you would add a domain into, then Add the Domain.

If successful, you should see the Added Successfully message (or something like that).

Switch it quick enough, DNS Propagation won’t affect users.

Now, in the MX Records section, you should now see the ability to add an MX Record to the subdomain.

You cannot add subdomains as addon domains. The only way that this is possible at all is because if you create a hosting account with a subdomain, it will be added to the addon domains list instead of the subdomains list.

Well, originally one could do so. Looks like the control panel updated and now it’s impossible. I’ll go and edit my post to say this no longer works. :slightly_frowning_face:
