Seeing how the question gets asked a lot, I will write a little guide here on how to migrate to a different subdomain.
Step 1: Add the new subdomain
First, go to your account and click the Add Domain button.
Then, choose the domain type Subdomain.
Then simply enter a new subdomain using an extension of your choosing, and finally click Create Domain
Step 2: Moving your website files
After adding your new subdomain, it will be assigned to a new folder on your account. The folder name will be something like example.ct.ws/htdocs, where your old domain will be something like example.infy.uk/htdocs or simply htdocs.
To move the website to your new domain name, you will need to move the files to the new location. We have a dedicated guide about that here:
Step 3: Update your website configuration
After moving your website files, you may need to do a few more things. If or how you need to do this depends on how your website works, but you may need to:
- Update your website configuration to use the new domain name. For WordPress, see this guide. For other website software, please check the documentation of your website software.
- Update any references to the old file location. In most cases, you don’t need to do anything for this, but some websites generate hard-coded configuration to specific folders on the server, that won’t work anymore now. You can skip this step at first, but have a look at your site’s configuration if you’re running into issues.
I hope that this guide sufficiently clarifies things. To help keep the topic clean, all further posts asking “how to switch to a new subdomain” will be deleted without warning, unless it’s clear that you actually read this post and have additional questions not covered by this guide.
