Adding a default document

I had setup my personal website with the default documents in folder as default.php. However it seems the settings in cPanel were as below

  1. Directory Listing (enabled)
  2. Only index.php is the default document.

Is there a way we can add additional scripts as default documents? Or can the administrator do the same?

As of now I had changed my local one appropriately, checked-in to my source control and re-uploaded the changes.

create an .htaccess file with this content

#Start here
DirectoryIndex default.php

assuming default.php is your home page
