Account statistics not updating (Disk space usage & Inode usage)

Hi,

I have an unusual problem with my account statistics: it shows Disk Space Usage = 2906 MB (of 5 GB) and Inode Usage = 60019 (of 59400).
Yesterday I uploaded a backup of an old website. It contained a lot of small image files, so the maximum Inode Usage was exceeded. I then deleted the entire content and even removed the created domains. Despite this, nothing has changed in the account statistics so far (more than 24 hours later).
I read in the support forum that account statistics can sometimes get stuck because they take some time to update. But I still think there might be a technical problem. Could someone please check this?

Try giving it another 8 hours from now a see if it updates. Don’t add those files back to your account at any point while you wait.

Dear Greenreader9, thank you very much for your reply!

I waited even longer (more than 24 hours) and haven’t changed anything in my account since then. However, the statistics remain the same. Overall, it has not changed for 3 days now.

47 hours later and the issue is still unresolved. Should I just shut down (deactivate) the account and start with a new one?

Given that the old account is basically empty, there is no downside in just creating a new account and starting from there. I don’t see any reason to keep using this old account, especially since it’s not usable right now.

However, we’re still investigating this issue, so if possible, please don’t deactivate this account yet. You can have up to three free accounts, which you don’t have yet, so creating another account is no issue.

Thank you very much for the update and your efforts to find the cause!
I would prefer to keep this account, therefore I’ll continue waiting before opening a second account. I will also not deactivate the account.

I’ve received an answer about why this issue occurs.

The reason the counters didn’t update is that the counter updating doesn’t work if there is nothing to count. If you don’t have any files, the counters just don’t update.

I created a htdocs directory on your account with a small placeholder file, and it seems that the statistics have been recalculated now.

Thank you very much for the time and effort you have put into this! The problem is solved and the thread can be closed. :+1:

Good to know what the reason was why the counter didn’t update. When Greenreader9 recommended “Don’t add those files back to your account at any point while you wait”, I interpreted this to mean that I shouldn’t add any files back to the account while waiting. This made sense, since deleting the existing files also changed the number of files in the account. So I expected this would automatically recalculate and update the statistics counter.

To be honest, I would expect the same. If there are no files to count, I think anyone would expect the counters to just say zero. IMO this is a silly bug in the counter, but I have no idea how hard it is to fix this.
