By the way, did anyone noticed the nic.eu.org website’s SSL certificate expiration? I could not browse the website due to this error:

I didn’t, but I think they changed the server it points to, which has a different SSL certificate that is for a different hostname than the one it used to point to before that…

I don’t know what are you blabbing about. It looks like some sort of tongue twister. Is it the lyrics of some Indian song? Perhaps, it’s a sacred message to be broadcasted on ergradio…

Anyway, I had the time to take all the initials and he agrees completely and says that the Phonetic Alphabet is really useful and that he also wrote a program to help teach it to his wife…

I didn’t even know he was that old until when I saw his CV yesterday! But still, IPA is a completely different story from what he wrote.

That old? I’m only 33… thats not that old…

That said, I am autistic\have ADHD so I do tend to not act my age lol.

 As JxstErg1 said, I was agreeing with you lol.

And I’ve just noticed I replied in Nato Phonetic Alphabet, not IPA… I got myself in a muddle there… and it took me too too long to notice…

Sorry about that, but I can’t even consider the fact I don’t know who’s the oldest one in this forum and that you seemed like the oldest one…

I think I’m the same, though without the ADHD part and though I don’t demonstrate it that much, by the fact that I usually stutter while I speak a foreign language and do the same with my mother tongue at times; while typing I demonstrate the opposite, though it takes me some time to think about what I’m typing, same goes for when I have to concentrate while doing exams, though there I don’t tend to use extra time and only make do with what the exam rules are.

 Dont worry, I’m not that easily offended. Before I started working in IT, I was a complaints handler for years. Takes a lot to offend me haha.

Honestly, I have no idea about peoples ages online. I tend to automatically assume everyone is arround my age then get shocked when they arnt lol

I generally people into a category of “child” “teen” or “adult” depending on the language they use and how they respond to others. I’m usually wrong in some way or another, but it’s still interesting to make a private guess and see how it pans out.

Very interesting rabbit hole to go down here.

If you are willing to devote a couple minutes to this very interesting thing, read the “Abstract”: https://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=2757465

If you have an hour, read this: https://download.ssrn.com/22/01/07/… (It has some decent storytelling and some intresting charts)

Spoiler - Read the post above first and only click here if you are not going to read the full article

“Seven of the nine participants who identified the child assignment clause and the one participant who identified the NSA mention were among those that declined the TOS” (Obar et al., 17).

Which means that 2 people who stated awareness of the first born child clause still agreed to the terms anyways :exploding_head:

Quite dangerous for non-vigilant users of any obscured, deceptive service. Shady websites can take advantage of this phenomenon. It’s too late when the user accepts the terms and conditions of a certain service.

As far as I know, there were few cases of such mistakes in the Philippines where the personal data of some users of an online money lending application, particularly the information about the list of contacts, were intentionally and illegally used by operators for blackmailing those who cannot pay within the specific deadline.

I think it’s better for Infinityfree to put a warning message everytime an adblocker is being detected, especially on the authentication page.

I am very glad that it has been implemented :tada:!

My current operating system has not been configured for persistence, yet. Everything goes back to normal every time I boot it up (including the browser’s profile). The “uBlock origin” extension is enabled by default. Sometimes, I became forgetful that I couldn’t remember the existence of the ad-blocker on my browser in the first place. The banner is enough for me to become aware of my Alzheimer’s disease :joy: (*just kidding!*)

There has been code to detect whether ad blockers were blocking the wrapper script since day one.

However, the purpose of ad blockers is to be able to access websites without ads. And popups that block adblock users from accessing the website is not what they want. So ad block developers implement measures to block the adblock warnings and access the site without issues.

But then this defeats the purpose of anti-adblock tools. So they implement changes to block the ad blockers from blocking their anti-adblock system. Which then prompts adblock developers to implement changes to circumvent that. Repeat ad nauseam.

So the popup might be there today, gone tomorrow, and ads may be showing the day after that.

The unfortunate side effect of this arms race is that the rules implemented by ad blockers can have unintended side effects. So far, uBlock Origin maintainers have broken the scripting of the forum, the control panel, and yesterday I found out that they broke both CATPCHA implementations in the client area.

Filter List Issues
Report issues with filter lists or broken website functionality in the uAssets issue tracker.

I think it’s better if we report these issues on their issue tracker. But even if we do that, the cycle will repeat all over again, just like what you’ve said earlier. Infinityfree users shouldn’t use ad-blockers in the first place! We, the users, should be thankful for this free web-hosting platform. It’s hard to find something free nowadays! Infinityfree deserves monetization.

EDIT: Nevermind. There is an active issue already. infinityfree.com: ads / breakage / detection · Issue #25178 · uBlockOrigin/uAssets · GitHub

Admittedly, I use an AdBlocker called AdBlocker Ultimate. I hate ads on sites in general, but I had added a few exceptions, such as an exception to InfinityFree. Some sites can display ads, and I don’t mind. Other sites can find other ways to profit.

That’s what I have done so far. But who knows for how long it has been broken for who knows how many users until I found that the CAPTCHA was broken and reported it to the uBlock maintainers.

I completely agree with that. But it’s hard to convince people to disable their ad blocker when people have an ad blocker that’s on by default which breaks our website. If I see a broken website, I leave. I generally wouldn’t think to disable my ad blocker.

As a pihole user, i was able to create a hosting account, login to control panel/file manager, and request ssl certificate in client area just fine despite it doesn’t have any CSS, no popup to disable my adblocker, and captcha box still works. So it’s not broken.

If you have a computer but you don't have wifi router + rpi combo

Install one of PiHole’s supported Linux distro on your computer if you haven’t done it, install pihole, and configure 127.0.0.1 as the nameserver in the /etc/resolv.conf file :stuck_out_tongue:
Disclaimer: details above is just my theory and i didn’t test it :v

Also bad news, nic.eu.org is down as of now
