I remembered that BIOS is still in use after the startup, but I don’t remember what particular purpose it serves after that.
Actually, that’s the drop
It’s house, so the drop isn’t as heavy as other genres.
theres some weird stuff in the reserved directory named ‘icons’ on infinityfree → ifastnet
https://lovebyte.eu.org/icons/
17 year old images
That has been discovered a long time ago, though the exact use of these images is unclear; some are present in the 404 page /errors/404
(I think!) but some can be found nowhere.
But yeah, recently there’re a lot of icons
issue poped up in the forum — I guess iFastNet changed something so it always uses the reserved one regardless of whether you have that folder or not.
some of the .gif ones are also used when you have directory listing to show the different file types but they look pretty bad
luckily you can actually create an icons directory on your hosting and create your own icons to replace the default ones and these will be displayed instead
my replacement ones also look pretty bad
if you have any friends that are fans of star wars and want to wind them up then play them this video
oh things have changed !
I just checked and replacing icons in the icons / iconsx directories with custom ones no longer works !
sorry
@Qisrael this is what I meant by behaving special in the iFastNet server.
I didn’t look at the time on your video…
isn’t it too early after 1 minute to have a climatic point?
1 minute goes by quickly, and you need time to prepare the listener (his brain and ear) and to get him hooked before “the ecstasy” starts.
You’re right that BIOS/UEFI is only used to boot the system, but that’s also where the danger lies.
Because BIOS/UEFI is responsible for loading the operating system, it has the ability to modify and manipulate the operating system before it starts. So it can inject malware code into Windows before it boots.
And that’s bad, because it can disable any software in Windows that can detect and remove this malware. And even if the malware is removed, it can just inject itself again at the next boot.
Not just that, it’s broken too. I believe those images are intended to be used for the directory listing. But as you can see on the directory listing, those icons are still broken. Because they reference a folder iconsx
, not icons
.
I’ll talk to iFastNet about this.
yeah ive always thought that iconsx was a typo where the finger slipped off the s to the x below
IMO it would be better to not use the icons
folder for this. The name “icons” is pretty generic, and as we’ve seen this week, it’s not uncommon for people to have an icons
folder in their site, which doesn’t work due to this override. iconsx
is more distinct and I suspect nobody has a folder called that as part of their site. So using that, or even a random gibberish path, avoids the nasty surprised multiple people have had this week.
how about IFicons for the new directory name
or md5 ?

I need a javascript mp3 decoder that can play in real time because I have a plan to turn it into something interesting
oh. lmao. for some reason i’m not surprised LMAO
Possibly, but a lot of songs nowadays take around that long to drop. I can always insert more stuff, but the more I go off and try to extend things, the harder it is for me to tie it all back in and make it sound like it is 1 song (as opposed to having multiple melodies that slowly starts to sound like another song entirely).
