The fact that it gonna be 5 years since I first appeared here in 5 months.
Time for an upgrade
I know that 64 GB is overkill. One of the reasons I considered upgrading was because my FPS tanked (pun intended) down to 9 FPS when I was playing Arma 3 and I looked at the RAM usage and it was in the upper 90âs (percent-wise).
However, Iâm going off to college next fall and I want to get into comp-sci. Iâll likely be doing some ML and memory-heavy tasks, so itâs best to go with the higher memory sooner rather than later.
Here, you can see why Arma 3 takes up quite a bit of ram:
(Windows takes up quite a bit of ram, so even if 4.5 GB isnât a lot for a game, the other programs bring my usage really close to the 16 GB of ram that I have)
Nice
I passed there by bike three days ago (when I was returning from the cemetery)
Judging by the length of the shadow, itâs probably early in the morning?
I will have to repeat what I have already told you
that empty RAM = wasted money
RAM is there to be filled (thatâs what itâs for), not to be empty
and you donât have to be surprised that active programs take as much as they can⌠an ordinary browser with several open tabs can take up to 5GBâŚ
in addition, you have nvme m.2, so even when the RAM disappears, the data will be temporarily stored there as a cache - and that is not slow compared to the old HDD
For todayâs needs, 16GB is enough unless you work/play in 4k resolution
Donât invest too much in a laptop because the prices of old RAM are more expensive than newer and faster versions, and take care that you will âsoonâ buy a new laptop
which consumes less energy (battery) 10x more powerful CPU and GPU
so that once you need to draw a line and say enough investing in old equipment and buy new because it is more profitable.
But ok, if it makes you happy - buy it
Thanks for testing
Even if it could go to the Internet, the OS would probably freeze completely as soon as it tried to open an image from a website, because the device simply does not have enough RAM to do it.
One example is when I used XP and had 512MB of RAM and scanned the image on the scanner in 48bit (max everything)
the file size was 2GB and whenever I tried to open the image in some program, the program simply crashedâŚ
Wait, donât you live in Ukraine?
Nope! It was at 3:47 PM, when I had gotten dropped off by my bus!
No - I just used that spot in the BIO for a message
Oh, so you live in Florida?
Ah, I see now! I didnât recognize the flags but I realized if I hold down on them I can see the name.
Anyway, in about 11 minutes I will be testing for midterms in Drivers Education, so, wish me luck!
Good luck!
I took the test⌠and it didnât go well. There were 200 questions in the test and we were only given an hour and thirty-seven(ish) minutes to complete it. I only got 53.5% of the way through and had to guess on the remaining 46.5% of the test.
I donât know what I would do without AI! It has helped me debug so many errors and is very convenient. For example, today I was making a method inside of a class and wanted to sort an array a certain way but couldnât figure out how because I was too stupid to figure out how to use usort
and Bing helped me!
I did write most of the logic myself but Bing helped me optimize it by using
array_map
instead of 3 for
and foreach
loops.
Iâm only doing stuff in 1080p.
The thing is that a lot of the stuff I do takes up memory fast. Iâve run into memory problems a couple of times before, enough for it to be a valid nuisance.
Yep. To be fair, 32 GB would probably been enough. I already bought the 64 GB though (I can return it, so Iâll see the policy and whether or not I can try it out). I definitely want to try training some ML/AI models, which can very easily go over 32 GB. Same with video editing, which I do sometimes.
Music production can eat up ram, too⌠but I havenât had too much of a problem with that (yet).
Hello
RAM - recommended 8 for arma 3
this is probably happening to you (or some other variant where it just swallows RAM and does not release it)
Well, I have quite a bit of intensive mods installed. The map I had trouble with is very detailed and the overall effects of explosions, dust, etc definitely put quite a strain on things. Plus, this happened mostly when I was in a city on one of the maps.
Simulation games can take up a lot of RAM, especially when you turn up the quality of the graphics.
