I want to make a wireless LAN (basically have my computer make it’s own wireless network that other computers can connect to).

I’ve tried this tutorial but I don’t see “local area connection”, nor “set up ad-hoc wireless network”.

Any ideas?

On windows? It has a “mobile hotspot” feature with internet sharing over Bluetooth and WiFi.

LAN is just a name and you can rename it to anything
but your name is probably Ethernet
also you can see from the pictures in that article that the name has 10/100 which is the speed declaration for the network card .

it’s probably best and quickest to do as @wackyblackie mentioned

Use your Windows PC as a mobile hotspot (microsoft.com)

only I’m not sure how safe it all is
is it just WEP or uses WPA2 ? etc.

I’ve used that before.

But that requires an existing wifi connection.

I want to make my own discoverable network that is hosted by my computer (does not have to have internet connection, just able to communicate with other computers, mainly to play games over the network).

As far as I know, it uses the network you are connected to and your computer just becomes a router. From what I can infer, that means that the encryption method is the same as the network’s.

Um, WiFi works by getting a wired signal from a service provider (Starlink is the exception). I don’t think you can become a internet service provider and create your own internet connection.

@Thewebuser22 if you don’t want to share snacks with others
and in order to respect epidemiological measures, this may suit you as well

I also want to do it for non-gaming purposes.

Prob never gonna get regular since my expertise revolves around web dev but not web administration (domains, cloudflare, e.t.c).

Yes, it was granted 10h ago but it got revoked somehow while I was asleep.
