Due to the recent outage affecting the xxx.116 ip address, i had to move my website to a new account. The way i always accessed the website before the outage was by typing ‘fishyfmp.co.uk’ into the browser. After i moved the website, i was not able to access it via this address. Instead, i am now only able to access it via “www.fishyfmp.co.uk”. Thinking that it might have something to do with my local DNS, i checked “fishyfmp.co.uk” on a device that has never accessed the website before, but it still didn’t work. I would like the website to be accessible via the address without the “www.”, is there some way change that?
This is my second time running a website and i am in no way a professional, so sorry if the answer is obvious. I’ll provide any additional info if necessary.
edit: forgot to specify; whenever i try to access the address without “www.” i get a timeout.
edit2: just to be sure, i’ve flushed the DNS cache on my computer and the problem persists.
Flushing the DNS cache on your computer may help, but isn’t guaranteed to work around DNS caching. Your computer most likely is contacting an upstream DNS resolver (usually operated by your ISP), which may also hold cache. Unless you operate your own resolver, you can’t clear that.
But there are a few workarounds described in this article:
Thank you, i have originally misunderstood how DNS works. The ‘fresh’ device i was using to check the website was on the same wifi as my computer, which is probably why it also didn’t work. From what i understand now, it should just fix itself after some time has passed. Thanks again.
