Part of this is caused by the fact that doing websockets from PHP is a really, really bad idea because PHP as a language is extremely bad at handling many long running connections, which is what you need for running websockets. If you want to use websockets, you’ll need a programming language that can support them well (like Node.js or Golang) and a hosting platform that can support the use case well.
