Unable to delete infinite nested folders in htdocs

Website URL

N/A (issue is with FTP/htdocs directory)

Error Message

(Some deletions failed. Please try again.
Processed 0 files in 245 directories.)

Other Information

(Hello,

By mistake, an infinite recursive folder structure was created inside my /htdocs directory.
Example:
htdocs/web1/images/web1/images/web1/images/ (repeats hundreds of times)

There are now more than 400 nested folders.
I am unable to delete them using:

  • File Manager
  • FTP ( FileZilla )
Both show permission / deletion failed errors.

Please reset or clean my /htdocs directory from the server side.

Thank you.)

We can’t access your FTP account here (except for Admin).

I’m pretty sure this is failing due to the extreme length of the file path names, and thus, FPT nor PHP can delete this (correct me if I’m wrong). All I can really think about is using SSH but that’s not available here, sorry

(Edit: If you can download everything else except for the broken folder, maybe try making a new hosting account and uploading everything to there? You will have to remove the domain you’re currently using from the current hosting account and make it on the new one)

Something like that sounds likely, yes. Although FTP (and by extension the file manager) typically tends to be a bit more fussy with things like that.

Did you try using PHP to delete the directory?

Please don’t create additional topics about the same issue. If you want to get this resolved, just posting the same message over and over again until the folders have magically disappeared is not the way to do it.

If the answers you’ve received are unclear or don’t solve your issue, you can simply respond to them with follow-up questions. Simply asking the same question repeatedly and hoping for a better outcome will not work.
