Hi, I have a laptop from someone, motherboard has died but the ssd drive is still working when connected to a usb caddy
I have installed google chrome and firefox on the new laptop and have been trying to transfer the browser profiles from the original ssd to the new windows 10 installation but without any success
So far I have only been attempting the firefox by copying the profiles from %appdata%\Local\Mozilla\Firefox\profiles and %appdata%\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\profiles
I started firefox.exe -p to start up with the profiles manager but I just cant seem to find an option to select the old profile that I copied
If anybody has an idea how to do this and also with google chrome then I would be very grateful
For Chrome just use Takeout, or the built-in sync feature. I would imagine Firefox has something similar to Chrome Sync or a date export/import option.
sadly I have no access to the persons accounts so the only way I can transfer this stuff is to copy the directories and files from the old ssd to the new laptop
i’ll do some more experimenting tomorrow, I think in firefox I might be able to use about:profiles from the url and then choose the default profile directory from one of the profiles I have already copied or if that doesn’t work I could always directly edit profiles.ini
this was my first thought but sadly it failed to boot and boot repair didn’t work either, i spent 3 hours trying to fix this thing to boot
Eventually I managed to get it to boot by manually creating an efi partition with the efi and bootloader files, my reward was to be greeted by a totally busted windows 10 that loaded the desktop and then froze
its so corrupted because of the failing laptop before it died, luckily the %appdata% directories are intact
