Submitted ticket and was told your server was hit with DDOS and it would take 24 hours to get my site up and running again. Its been over 24 hours and my site is still down. Any chance it will be resolved long enough for me to get a back up of all the work I’ve done?
Permanent suspensions are dealt with exclusively through the ticket system. If they won’t unsuspend your site, you can ask for a backup. The DDOS attack in question has already ended and the affected IP address is back online.
We have built-in DDoS protection. So I can tell you that DDoS protection is not magic, and it’s typically 1) very costly to be able to handle big attacks and 2) not perfect in filtering traffic.
If you expect there to be DDoS protection to work 100% perfectly 100% of the time, you will be very disappointed.
I understand that perfect protection isn’t realistic, but I do expect a hosting service that won’t permanently take down a site due to a single, unprovoked attack. While I acknowledge that such incidents can pose risks to everyone and that the needs of the many outweigh the few, new subscribers should be informed upfront that even a single random DDoS attack will result in a permanent ban. Additionally, when such an event occurs, please avoid sending a generic email with hopeful misleading information like, “Your free hosting server’s IP address has been temporarily suspended for 24 hours due to a DDoS attack,” followed by a sales pitch for paid upgrades to receive “immediate support.”
Site now completely moved off infinityfree to a more stable host. Been 10 days and no issues on hosting or server side. Cloudflare shows no UNUSUAL amount of traffic to the site.
