# shell exec – Where to find shell\_exec to enable or disable it?

If under the word “played” you mean **enabled**  
then the answer is NO.

Command-line access is not allowed on free hosting, so any command-line-related function (e.g. `shell_exec`, `exec`, `system`, `proc_open`) are disabled. If you need command-line access, please consider upgrading your account.

You did not specify the name of that software,  
but I repeat _“it is disabled for security reasons”_.

You can try contacting the author of that script (developer)  
and ask him how to skip that request if **that part** is not necessary.

This is web hosting,  
and I’m a little suspicious of the need for “audio conversation”.
