Previously, InfinityFree used FileMonsta File Manager, which was stable, fast, and very easy to use. File uploads, edits, and navigation worked properly without issues.
However, the new custom file manager that replaced FileMonsta is causing many problems:
File uploads often fail or get stuck
Very slow performance
Random errors during file operations
Overall poor user experience compared to FileMonsta
Because of these issues, managing websites has become difficult.
Request:
Please consider bringing back FileMonsta File Manager or at least give users an option to switch between the old FileMonsta and the new file manager.
FileMonsta was working perfectly, but the current one is not reliable.
The change was made by IFastNet, and unfortuinaitly there’s no going back now. That’s one of the reasons the recommended way to manage your site is through an FTP client like Filezilla. That way you’re in control of it.
That side, despite its bugs, I did prefer FileMonsta myself.
Unfortunately, the FTP extension on free hosting is disabled so you can no longer self host this piece of software by yourself on free hosting directly.
If you need this very badly then you can only resort to 3rd party websites which is not recommended.
Your experience is surprising, because many of the issues you’re having with the new file manager were issues that were extremely common for many people using MonstaFTP. Random crashes, failed uploads and bad performance were very commonly reported. You may have gotten lucky and not run into them, but that was not the experience many other people had.
Just before we shut it down, we were actually running a modified version of MonstaFTP. We had modified the internals ourselves to fix some of the most critical issues that the MonstaFTP developers were very slow to properly address. But even this was quite difficult due to how complex MonstaFTP is internally.
That’s why we decided to make our own file manager: we wanted something modern we could maintain ourselves.
So based on that experience, I hope you can understand why our stance is and will remain: there is zero chance we will ever bring back MonstaFTP in any way.
If there are issues with our file manager, let us know about it. Unlike with MonstaFTP, we can actually fix issues and make improvements. And instead of having two half broken file managers, we’d rather work towards having one good one.
