It can be really anything, from any plugins you have, the extension of the image you want to upload, the size of the image file, up to…

Try with another picture - smaller in both resolution and file size or some other extensions

The most common problem is ImageMagick vs GD
we don’t have ImageMagick installed, but we have GD

and WP then follows this

If you don’t know what you’re doing, then it’s better to ignore the article below
