Password limited to 15 characters?

I was wondering, why are the passwords for hosting accounts (hosting, not website) limited to 15 characters? As the password is (probably) stored as a constant size hash in the database, the length of the input shouldn’t matter, I think?

The password length limit is enforced by the upstream hosting system, not by us, so I can only speculate.

However, my best guess would by that the password is stored as plain text. Yes, from a security perspective, that’s less than ideal. However, a lot of features like Softaculous and the website builder need FTP credentials to work, which is why the password needs to be recoverable. Besides, the password would be stored in plain text in your website configuration files anyways, since you need it to connect to your database as well.
