### Error Message

Warning: open\_basedir needs to allow access to /home/vol1\_6/infinityfree.com/if0\_43365279/

Current open\_basedir:
/php\_sessions:/home/uploads:/home/tmp:/var/www/errors:/home/vol1\_6/infinityfree.com/if0\_43365279/htdocs

Required:
/home/vol1\_6/infinityfree.com/if0\_43365279/

### Other Information

I am using InfinityFree free hosting and trying to install OpenCart.

My PHP version is 8.4.27. All required PHP extensions are enabled, and both config.php files are writable.

The only remaining issue is the open\_basedir restriction.

Please let me know if this can be fixed on free hosting or if there is another solution.

Thank you.

Welcome to the InfinityFree community forum! Good to have you here.

- Most people answering here are volunteers. They’re often the fastest source of help. Admin (the only staff member) checks in about once a day for issues on our end.
- Volunteers can’t see your account or website. Share what you actually see, like error messages and what happens when you try something. That’s more useful than your theory of what’s wrong.
- AI tools often get InfinityFree wrong. If a volunteer’s advice differs from what an AI told you, please try the volunteer’s suggestion first.
- Solving an issue is a joint effort. Try the suggestions you get and report back what happened.

Short answer: on our hosting, PHP code can’t access files outside the `htdocs` directory of the website it runs on, so I don’t think the `open_basedir` setting can be changed. The OpenCart guide says that’s why OpenCart’s data directory has to sit inside `htdocs`, for example `htdocs/ocartdata` instead of the default `ocartdata`.

Here’s the guide:

> [@How to install OpenCart on InfinityFree](https://forum.infinityfree.com/docs?topic=96859):
>
> OpenCart is a popular and powerful option for building an online store, and you can run it on InfinityFree! However, there are a few special steps you need to follow to ensure OpenCart runs smoothly on our hosting platform. The good news is that you can install OpenCart using Softaculous with just a few minor changes. Configuring the Data Directory OpenCart requires a Data Directory to function properly. It’s written for the Softaculous installer. Your warning wants access to the folder above `htdocs`, so it looks like the installer is trying to use a storage or data location outside `htdocs`. A solved topic with a similar manual-install warning had the same cause, a data path outside `htdocs`:

Are you installing manually or through Softaculous? And what storage or data directory path is the installer, or the `config.php` it wrote, currently set to? If that path isn’t inside `htdocs`, that would explain the warning.

I am installing OpenCart manually by uploading and extracting the ZIP files through the InfinityFree File Manager. I am not using Softaculous.

### Error Message

Hello Support Team,

I am following up on my OpenCart 4.1.0.4 installation issue.

My domain: [https://habibshop.xo.je](https://habibshop.xo.je)

My hosting username: if0\_43365279

The OpenCart installer reports an open\_basedir restriction because it requires access to the parent directory of htdocs.

I have already created a storage directory inside htdocs:

htdocs/ocartdata/

It contains these folders:

- cache
- logs
- download
- upload

My questions:

1. Can OpenCart 4.1.0.4 run on InfinityFree with its storage directory inside htdocs?
2. Is there a supported workaround for the installer’s open\_basedir check?
3. Can you confirm whether the restriction can be safely handled without disabling hosting security?

Please help me find a compatible solution.

Thank you.

Yes, OpenCart can run on InfinityFree with its storage directory inside `htdocs`. That’s the setup our article describes. PHP can’t access anything outside the `htdocs` directory of the website it runs on, so the default `ocartdata` location above `htdocs` doesn’t work here.

The article covers installing through Softaculous with the Data Directory set to `htdocs/ocartdata`. It also covers a known `open_basedir` bug in OpenCart 4.0.2.3 and later, which you fix by editing one line in `system/library/template/twig.php`.

The article is the only source I found on this, so here’s what I can and can’t tell you about your three questions:

- **Storage inside `htdocs`:** Yes, as above.
- **Workaround for the installer check:** I found nothing that says the manual installer’s check can be bypassed. The installer wants access to the parent of `htdocs`, and your `open_basedir` stops at `htdocs`. The article’s route is Softaculous with the adjusted Data Directory.
- **Disabling security:** I found nothing about changing the restriction, and the article doesn’t suggest it. It works within the restriction instead.

Here’s the article:

If you already have OpenCart files in place, did you try Softaculous with the Data Directory set to `htdocs/ocartdata`? Or are you running the manual installer? That tells me which part of the article applies to you.

You also have an earlier topic on the same installer error, so it may be easier to keep the discussion in one place:

Yes, you can host OpenCart on our hosting, but indeed the data directory takes some special care. We have a guide for that here:
