My website stop working

Beep boop, I’m a bot! I dug through the forum to get you started. I sometimes get things wrong though, so do with this what you will until a human has a look.

A HTTP ERROR 500 means either the PHP code crashed or the .htaccess file has invalid rules. I found a knowledge base article that covers both.

Here’s the article:

Two quick checks will show which of the two it is:

  • Rename .htaccess: If you have one in your htdocs folder, rename it to .htaccess.backup and reload. If the error goes away, a bad rule in that file was the cause.
  • Turn on PHP error messages: In the control panel, go to Alter PHP Config, pick your domain, click Alter PHP Directives and set “Display Errors” to “On”. Reload the page and you should see the real error. The article says a 500 only tells you PHP crashed, not why.

What is the site running (WordPress, a custom PHP script, something else)? Did you change anything just before it broke, like a plugin, theme, PHP file or .htaccess rule? If you get an actual error message after turning on Display Errors, please post it here exactly as it appears.
