Is FTP Working Currently?

I was wondering if FTP is working as it should currently?

It has been a long time since I backedup my sites, this is the error my Filezilla is giving me:

Not ideal, as I am sure you will agree. Please can soebody advise?

Problem connecting via FTP

This seems to be an issue. The message says TLS is OK, but the status code should be 234, not 502. In this post, a person who seems to be one of the people behind FileZilla says it’s caused by: There’s a bloody damn broken firewall actively sabotaging the connection. I’m willing to believe that. Can you please try connecting from a different network, or over a VPN and see if that helps? If it does, it does mean there is a firewall on your end breaking secure FTP.

Similar issue here. I’m in China, so I don’t know if that’s causing an issue, but I am connecting through a VPN. I can log onto the control panel, but FileZilla is not connecting at all. Logs below.

Huh, my logs are in Chinese too - they say the same thing as the OP’s logs.

The issue looks the same: the initial FTP connection works, but then FileZilla and the server are trying to upgrade to a secure connection, but this connection cannot be established.

This is always caused by some kind of network configuration issue on your end. FTP is notoriously picky with connections, and it can break if a router is not set up correctly.

Some things that usually work:

• Try connecting with a (different) VPN.
• Check your router settings and enable or disable the FTP ALG option, if it exists.
• Try Active FTP instead of Passive FTP, or vice versa.
• Disable connection security entirely (not recommended).

Hi Admin, I tend to use whatever Network I am on at the time, whether be a mobile hotspot I own, or a BT HotSpot, whatever is the strongest at the time… I will have another go on a variety of networks and see how I get on… I only need to upload eight files to my audio library, if I can’t get on through FTP, what other options do I have??

If you only need to upload a few files, maybe the web based File Manager can do the trick? For more complex operations like installing a script or plugin or whatnot, it doesn’t work very well. But uploading 8 files should be no problem.

I tried to upload them through the component in Joomla it is broken, the developer never bothered maintaining support for it, I never tried the file Manager, I am an FTP user… I think the problem was the open network from BT, I logged in from my own network today and FTP was fine… I don’t think it likes open networks…
