Going by the Wikipedia definition (which is different from a Virtual Server or a Remote Desktop), I guess it would be possible to emulate the design of multiple “desktops” on a web page with Javascript. After all, what can’t you do with Javascript?
A quick web search points me to a few possible ways to do it, but they all seem quite hacky and mostly abandoned. And I can’t say I’m surprised, because it seems like a horrible UX for a website. For the rare case where you do want to multi-task on different desktops on a single website, I would much rather (and do, actually) just manage different browser windows from my computer’s desktop.
