Hi, my site has hits usage (usually low until I visit the site) but yet my analytics tool does not say anyone is visiting the site.
That’s completely normal, because they measure different things in different ways.
Every request to your website increments the hit counter. This includes requests to things which are not web pages, or web pages which do not have analytics code. Because analytics code is implemented as Javascript that runs in the browser, it’s also quite easy to block it using ad blockers.
Analytics tools are useful to investigate how people interact with your website. They track most page views from most real people, which is good enough for that purpose. We care about how much server load your website generates. Counting the number of requests is a quite good metric for that.
I just realised the analytics tool seemed to be broken. Someone visited the site but the analytics tool did not pick it up.
Not necessarily broken. It could be someone using an anti-tracking extension, or an ad blocker.
My analytics code wasn’t actually there, I put it in and now it works.
This is what’s going on:
My hits usage is this:
But my analytics tool shows this:
The spike on the analytics tool data was from yesterday.
Hits usage resets every 24 hours. So it may have reset after the visits.
