Flooding FTP blocked me?

https://steve.lovestoblog.com

I was trying to switch from FileZilla to WinSCP and I think the WinSCP was flooding constant reconnects, I stopped being able to log in via FTP through WinSCP, and then I couldn’t connect through FileZilla, and finally I tried through a CMD prompt and was not able to log in (bad password) and now I can’t even ping the FTP server or get it to answer me at all.

Is it possible that I triggered a firewall or made it think I was attacking it, and now I am blocked? And if so, is there a timeout period where it will start responding again?

Yeah I just tried it again … at first the connections were timing out, and now I can’t even get to the host … I think I flooded something out with too many connections. Will this reset eventually?

Thanks!

No idea. Please provide ftp logs

What do you mean by what you said?

I was making a ton of FTP connections then I couldn’t, I couldn’t even ping the host. I thought I might have triggered some sort of flood protection or something.

I gave it a few hours and it came back, it’s all working now.

I’m glad to hear that! Also, to tell others, Make sure to mark your post as solved!

There are logs and filters active on the FTP server that block excessive connection attempts. If you have a misconfigured client that excessively connects to the FTP server, it may indeed result in your IP address being temporarily blocked.

There is no easy way for you or me to remove an IP address from the blocklist, but the block should be lifted automatically if you just don’t connect for a while.
