Error Message

All folders and files suddenly disappeared from File Manager. The root directory is not available. Please help. I am using free account.

Welcome to the forum.

Have you tried using an FTP client like FileZilla to make sure it’s not a file manager bug?

Unfortunately though, if the files have actually been deleted, then they are gone. Infinity free don’t keep backups

suddenly “.htaccess” folder disappeared that contains all contents of my website. Still this folder is missing. Is there any solution to get it back?

Please answer my question above.

But no. If it’s really gone, it’s gone

my pc warns while installing FileZilla, but anyways, the missing folder is still missing, didn’t make backup ever of this folder. is there a contact email of Hosting support? how to contact admin?

I checked your website, and I can indeed see that every folder on your account is missing. There is no file manager issue: the file manager shows exactly what files are there (including the .htaccess file and the “DO NOT UPLOAD FILES HERE” file).

It appears that the htdocs folder was deleted. I have no way to tell when it was deleted, who deleted it, or why it was deleted, but it’s clearly not there.

I can also tell you that there is nothing we can do to bring it back. We don’t make backups of free hosting accounts, so any modification made to your files is final and cannot be undone.

And for your information: there is no support email address, and no way to contact me directly. All support is provided through this forum.

If your files are gone, they are gone. Whether I tell you that through a forum, email, live chat or phone, it doesn’t change the situation.

10 posts were split to a new topic: Files missing in file manager

Same issue with my File manager. “.htaccess“ which is the root directory is missing. After querying the admin responded that if files are missing means these are gone and will not be recovered. I request admin again please see it is the problem of many users therefore should be possible to recover. It is the problem on hosting side, not the mistake of a free account user. Please try recover our data as soon as possible.

You have a different problem than the people in the split thread do- they were experiencing a brief FTP outage on the hosting side which has sense been resolved. It could have made it look like files were missing, when in fact they were actually still present. Your files on the other hand really are gone.

Why the files are gone is anyone’s guess however. It could have been your mistake, or action of someone else who took control of your account, an issue with a script/CMS your using, etc. The idea that it’s a hosting issue isn’t impossible, but if that had happened then I’m sure there would be a lot of other people who have the same issue. But right now there isn’t a mass amount of users complaining that they’ve had files suddenly deleted, and as Admin pointed out in that other thread, that was not what happened to those users.

As Admin already pointed out, that’s not possible. InfinityFree doesn’t take any automated backups of user hosting accounts (it would be far too expensive to do so for all of them) so unless you backed up the files yourself, then I’m afraid there’s nothing to restore. Deleted really does mean deleted here.

That means it is the FTP issue at your side, not the user mistake. Would you please restore my data?

Not possible as there is no backup in the first place.
Learn from this lesson, make frequent backups

You’re completely missing the point we’re trying to make.

The FTP server was unreachable for 20 minutes yesterday, causing problems with website maintenance for many people. However, their files were still all there, and (as far as I know) their websites kept working without issues during the outage.

All those other people who came into the topic because they had “the same issue”, did not actually have the same issue. They just read the title, which still says “file manager issues”, concluded that they also have a file manager issue, and that therefore the issue must be the same.

But actually, nobody had a file manager issue. Their issue was that the FTP server was down, and your issue is that data from your account is missing.

There is no file manager issue or FTP issue for your account. Both are displaying exactly the files that are on your account.

I already told you:

And in case it was not clear to you, it means: “no, we can’t restore your data”.
