cPanel File Manager 404s (filemanager.ai/new3/index.php) - can't access/download backup file

Hi,

I’m trying to download a WordPress backup (~1GB, .wpress file created by All-in-One WP Migration) from my account and running into two issues:

  1. Direct download of the backup file through the WordPress admin/plugin stalls - download speed drops to 0 partway through and never recovers. I’m assuming this is related to account resource limits during the zip/stream process, which I understand for a free/test plan.

  2. To work around this, I tried navigating to File Manager inside cPanel to access the file directly, but it redirects to filemanager.ai/new3/index.php and returns a 404 Not Found (nginx) error. This happens every time I try to open File Manager, not just on this one file.

What I’m hoping to find out:

  • Is File Manager currently down/broken for accounts on this cluster, or is this something specific to my account?
  • Is FTP/SFTP access available as an alternative way to retrieve large files directly, and if so, where do I find those credentials?
  • If FTP isn’t an option on this plan, is there another way to retrieve a completed backup file from the server filesystem?

Thanks!

Firstly, next time you have a support request, please use the Hosting Support category and fill in the topic template. It asks you for some basic details which help us to answer your questions more effectively. Even if you have a post already written, please refrain from just looking for a category that lets you paste it in without those questions, you can just post your question in the Other Information box as long as you still fill in those other details.

FTP access is available on all accounts. Credentials are easily accessible in the client area on the FTP Details page for your account. That’s one way to retrieve the backup file. If you type FTP in the search box at the top of this page, our detailed guide on how to use it should be right there at the top of the results.

The web-based downloading not working is expected. Our servers cut downloads after 10 MB to block the use of our hosting for file storage, so downloading that 1 GB file will not work. You can download it using the file manager or over FTP instead.

This is a good example though of why we do not recommend the use of backup plugins on our hosting. They often trigger hosting limits in various ways that leave you unable to create, download, upload or restore backups, just like you’re running into right now. Both WordPress’s own recommendation and our own is to back up your files and database directly instead.

As for the file manager issue: filemanager.ai is the URL where our file manager runs, and it’s working fine from here. I’m not sure why it’s not working for you. It might be a mangled login URL or a temporary connection block. There is no account level restriction that could cause this behavior. Please try opening it from the client area instead of the control panel, as the latter tends to be quite rough around the edges.
