# Connecting MySQL to infinityfree

My first attempt at setting up a cloud-based DB, having trouble getting the connection established through MySQL?

I gave it a connection name, copied & pasted the “hostname”, “username” & saved the password in the vault. I left the port as 3306.  
error message is pretty non-specific

“Failed to connect to MySQL at [sql102.infinityfree.com:3306](http://sql102.infinityfree.com:3306) with user if0\_38150858”

“unable to connect to [sql102.infinityfree.com:3306](http://sql102.infinityfree.com:3306)”

I am using MySQL version “MySQL Workbench 8.0.40 Community”
