Change HTDOCS

Website URL

https://gr8brik.rf.gd and http://gr8brik.infinityfreeapp.com

Error Message

I want to move my site. Now I want to delete my gr8brik.infinityfreeapp.com domain, but I want gr8brik.rf.gd to be my main domain (eg, my htdocs goes to gr8brik.rf.gd, and not gr8brik.infinityfreeapp.com).

I want to do this without creating a new hosting account.

Other Information

  1. Delete the htdocs folder for gr8brik.rf.gd (Backup any files you want to keep first)

  2. Using a desktop FTP client like FileZilla, CUT (Don’t copy), the htdocs folder that belongs to gr8brik.infinityfreeapp.com to the location where the htdocs folder for gr8brik.rf.gd (the one you just deleted) was.

  3. Adjust any siteURLs in your CMS is necessary.

I HIGHLY recommend you take a backup first in case you mess something up

I already did that. What I want to do is change the domain of my main HTDOCS folder. What I mean is I want HTDOCS to be gr8brik.rf.gd’s main folder.

Oh, you can’t do that. Just move the htdocs folder to /htdocs

Not possible if gr8brik.rf.gd is not the first domain/subdomain created on the hosting account

How can I set it to be default? I know gr8brik.rf.gd would redirect to the old site files for a minute, but I would switch the HTDOCS around.

Again:

If you create a hosting account with a certain domain name, that domain is assigned to the htdocs directory. Domains added later on will get their own, separate directory. If you remove the initial domain and then add it again, it will also get a new directory.

If you insist on the domain being linked to the htdocs directory, the only thing you can do is remove it from your current account and create a new account with it. But then you will need to migrate your website to a new account.

It’s your decision of course, but in my opinion it’s not worth it to move the whole website to a new account just because the files of your site are in a slightly different location.

If people don’t go to my old domain; will my site shutdown of inactivity?

Even if bots from GSC or etc, visit. it’s enough to keep your website active ig.

I don’t think the verified web crawlers create hits, I would verify that statement with someone on the dev team.

If your website doesn’t get any visitors, it will be suspended. If you then don’t reactivate the account, it will get deleted.

So just keep an eye on the emails you get from us. If the account is suspended, you can just reactivate it. But there is no reason to lose your website.

So… my old domain does not matter? Bc I get like 5 people on my site a day/w my new domain

OK, so there are a few different ways to go from here:

  • You can keep it as it is. Both domains will probably stay active as long as your new domain is generating traffic, since they are on the same account. No further action is required, but your website will not be in the main htdocs folder.
  • You can keep your old domain on this account and move the new domain to a new account. This means the new domain will be linked to the main htdocs folder of your new account. However, you will have to manually migrate your website to the new account, and your old domain is at a higher risk of being deleted due to inactivity.
  • You can migrate your new domain to a new account as before, but also migrate your old domain to it. This old domain will be assigned to a different directory on your account, but you can easily redirect visitors to your new site from there, and reduce the risk of your old domain being deleted due to inactivity.

The choice is yours, it depends on how badly you want your domain to be linked to the main htdocs folder, how badly you want to keep your old domain and how much effort you want to put into it.

Thanks. I’ll just keep it as-is.
