I uploaded the html file via FileZila to the specific domain htaccess folder, and it seems to be working since it appears when I add the file name to my domain + /name.html. But search console keeps saying the file is not placed in the place it is supposed to be, I’d appreaciate if you could help me with this.
Try using a different method, like CNAME checks instead.

It should work if you chose the right way in the beginning (on Google)
and if your “address” is not made recently (younger than 1 day),
because it takes time for DNS propagation…then even Google is not able to retrieve the address (domain or free subdomain).

Solved it now with google analytics verification by installing site kit plugin on wordpress.
