Adding a customized domain to your website

Website URL

https://joaoornelas.infinityfreeapp.com/

Error Message

My customized domain joao-ornelas.co.uk is redirecting me to https://joaoornelas.infinityfreeapp.com/

Other Information

Apologies, I’m a beginner. I have a customized domain and I have followed the steps on the How to add your own domain to your account
As I have content already on my website I wouldn’t like to loose my progress so I would like to mantain the content of my website so i followed the steps to park the domain. I was thinking the current website https://joaoornelas.infinityfreeapp.com/ would now be linked to my customized domain, but it actually did the opposit. How can I revert this and ensuring everything remains the same but just change my domain?

PS would this affect anything on the wordpress that i need to be aware?

Did you add the domain as an “Addon Domain” or a “Parked Domain”?

If it’s an Addon domain, delete it from your account and add it in as a Parked Domain.

Then you can just go into your WordPress settings and change your “Site URL” from the free subdomain to your custom domain.

Hi, I add it as Parked Domain.

Is this what i need to do?

Change the top one in your screenshot as well, then you should be good to go.

I have done that and now i cant access my wordpress, it appears a connection error…

What should I do now?

Hey there, It seems like you are having an issue with your SSL certificate. ERR_SSL_PROTOCOL_ERROR ( Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) error that occurs when the browser fails to establish a secure connection with the website)

You should try reinstalling your SSL certificates.

Hi, I have only on SSL in place

Should i also request one SSL Certificate for the customized domain?

Also, Yesterday I have received a notification that my account was suspended, please see attached.

Yeah, you must create another one for your custom domain too.

Your account is suspended because you are exceeding the limited resources given by the free hosting plan.

But that is weird as I haven’t touched anything, I’m just trying to set up a new domain… you think this is due to having this error and the website continuously trying to connect with the server?

Does either of these domains have any visitors?

No, I don’t think so. But if you were using some heavy plugins or GET requests, such as ajax requests, having visitors at the same time could lead you into that.

Let me explain how a server works.

Servers are established on computers, except in clouds. So to run a server on a computer, it requires the usual components that are required to run a computer. So when we start a server on a computer, it’s using the computer’s resources to run it. It’s the same concept with the softwares; for example, if you open a Chrome browser it will take about 150 MB of your RAM (random access memory), and if you open a few extra tabs on it, the usage of the RAM will increase. It’s the same method with the servers. When you request a file from the server, it’s using RAM and CPU to deliver it. So more requests and users are equivalent to huge usage of resources.

I have it activated again. I’m trying to set up an SSL for the customized domain and the current Destination is noted as not ready as per the screenshot attached, is thit normal?

Please note that sometimes it takes a few hours to get updated.

This is now fixed, basically was just missing the SSL, thats why i was dealing with all these issues. Have requested free SSL, setup Cname Records automatically, waited until was ready, and then installed the Certificate automatically, after 15 min my site is now operational again. Thank you Everyone for the help
