429 Too Many Requests - Scanner activity detected

Other Information

Hello everyone,

My website is showing a 429 Too Many Requests - Scanner activity detected error. It has been like this for over 30 minutes now.

The site runs WordPress and I cannot access it at all, not even wp-admin. The error appears on all devices.

I have no idea why this happened as I was not doing anything unusual. Could anyone help me understand why this occurs and how to fix it?

Thank you!

Welcome to the forum

Looks to be working to me. Is it possible something on your computer or network is scannign the site and triggering a security system?

Thank you for checking! Yes it seems to be working now.

I don’t think it was anything on my computer or network, as the error was showing on multiple completely different devices and connections. So I don’t think it was a local scanner or anything like that.

I’m just worried it might happen again. Do you know if WordPress itself could cause this, for example with its automatic background requests? Or could it simply be caused by too many visits to the site in a short period of time?

The error you saw is caused by too many hits from the same device triggering at the same time.

As for the cause, wordpress itself would be unlikely to cause this, but it depends on what plugins you’ve got
