I don’t know why I’m so hyped now to just argue about how jQuery is still relevant

hmmm i wish i have as much time as you have to do things that no one do like you, very impressive

me always use lazy and fast solution, never mind about better but more time-consuming one cuz it just work, if it slow then ill buy a new server to fix the speed instead of rewrite the code lol

My solution really isn’t so time consuming.

I used a lot of jQuery in the past. I have worked on big jQuery projects in the past, but they usually were very fragile and hard to maintain. jQuery doesn’t really give you a framework or structure (unlike React or Vue), it’s just a library that lets you sprinkle Javascript on your existing pages. That can become a big mess quickly.

Then I vowed to avoid having so many things in jQuery, and preferring to do as much as possible with backend code and server side rendering, along with minimal functionality provided by my UI framework (usually Bootstrap). So the amount of jQuery code I had was very small.

At that point, rewriting everything with vanilla Javascript isn’t that big of a deal, and keeping it is an unnecessary liability.

Then Livewire came along, and now I have the best of both worlds.

It’s not a question of performance, but of maintainability. Once a codebase grows, it becomes increasingly hard to make changes without accidentally breaking something else. Automated tests are excellent for this, and that’s very easy when all your code lives on the server. jQuery really wasn’t designed for that.

ig im lazy lol, have no idea what is livewire

well if it work for you then thats nice, finding a solution that both work and master-able is amazing but ehh ill just stick with the good old lazy stuff that still working and no one complaining about lol

Definitely an overkill

import { $ } from 'jquery';

Livewire is a “frontend” framework for Laravel, specifically one which lets you have dynamic components like React, but fully configured through backend code. I say “frontend” because it lets you do frontend functionality without writing frontend code.

Yep! Same goes for Laravel itself. It’s a really polished system.

Don’t let me stop you doing something that works for you. But please do keep this in mind when your codebase grows and becomes difficult to maintain, or when you find that releases often break existing functionality.

Automated testing has a fairly high upfront cost, but it pays itself off with easier changes later and a more stable product.

Instead of debating/talking about jQuery, let’s talk about something different.

Does anybody use Linux to do something that others (that don’t know) find very cool?

I use my UbuntuBook to send my sound from my phone via Bluetooth to my two Bluetooth speakers with the power of Helvum.

I use pop Linux for my 3d modeling and laser engraving work. As well as a Debian server to host a virtual table top server for playing board games and ttrpgs (like dungeons and dragons, and pathfinder) with friends around the world

When somebody says GNU/Linux instead of Linux :fire: :fire: :fire:

I once setup an SMB and DLNA server so everything on LAN can access the same contents on a harddisk and that’s kind of cool.
I also changed my KDE Plasma’s Font into an ancient font once

those don’t belong in the same sentence. (btw you stole my emoti style)

ToS?

Does not sound polished at all, IMO (larvae?)

The one time they talk about something I know about!

…that it’s not cool?

Actually I’m surprised that how nobody noticed that the auto linkify didn’t affect the first part

But maths is fun :frowning: So is data analysis thats just applied maths.

Laravel is very polished in reality. Just not the most user friendly in my expereince.

I’m guessing you changed to the rich text editor using this button?

That seems to turn off the auto linkify ( iFastNet )
Scratch that… It did the auto link when I saved the message

Bruh, searching “endfield” on tenor shows Perlica saying “Paypal me $3000.” I thought it’s a meme at first until i google the thing. They’re right. But i’m sure hypergryph fixed it ever since

Since my “company” domain doesn’t use www, the fact CloudFlare tells that as a suggestion, and browsers visually hiding the said prefix, let’s do something silly with it :person_running:
