What’s wrong with Arch? The only Linux I’ve used is ChromeOS…

Am I the only one who never marks likes as read?

I don’t either lol

It’s a sort of a meme distro

Basically everyone who use Arch will say “I use Arch BTW” at some point

Got myself a used Surface Go because I always wanted a Windows tablet and it have an Italian keyboard so I installed Italian on Windows in order to not get confused with the layout

It comes with the last offically supported Windows version, it’s kind of clean when compared to other such dealers in China but I still reimaged it with Windows 10 LTSC 2019 :face_with_tongue:

I vividly remember @Admin used photos from namesilo panel in the “adding domain to infinityfree” tutorial (now it uses photos from spaceship panel.) So i thought myself to use that exact registrar for this domain. Initial confusion on the payment method screen at first, but here’s the epic thing. The live chat window immediately pops up with premade message, and their support only take minutes to respond! Yea, the confusion is because i choose “credit card” method while turns out that the option is for visa cards only. My friend’s card i want to use is mastercard type. So i followed the (looks like also a template) support reply with a guide on how to select a proper bank card payment method, and it worked. Thanks, Ben on namesilo support, my indian friend who’s very generous for essentially “sponsored” this domain for me, and all of you who read this message till the end

Namesilo used to be the cheapest when I wrote that tutorial, but I think the company changed owners in the mean time, and now they are not so cheap anymore. The discount program prices a reasonable, but the regular pricing is very high.

Spaceship is much cheaper, and they are a branch of Namecheap, so they have a strong track record.

https://tld-list.com/ is a good source for cheaper domains, it compares the cheapest rates and is very cool. (I haven’t bought any domains yet - if I did, I would look at their site first) (going by some of the cheaper domains here, Spaceship seems to be quite cheap)

I wonder if this guy is going to try to make a card game.

On top of the registration rate, make sure to look at the renewal rate. Sometimes registrars will have a much cheaper registration rate but will have a higher renewal rate.

Doesn’t matter that much to me :person_shrugging:

Domains that are not registered through a Chinese company or extensions that are not approved cannot go through the ICP licensing process.

So I’m going to upgrade my mastodon from a 4.3 one to version 4.5.0

Hope I don’t mess up the migration steps

It’s kind of funny back when I’m trying to upgrade to 4.4 my site broke and I tell myself “this upgrade process must be malfuctioning” without realizing database migration is a thing

I think the migration went through properly yay

love the fact that google gemini api give me too many requests every 5 minutes and i have no way to fix this issuse because google api is sucks

Well, to say their API sucks is a bit of a leap.

One of two issues is probably going on:

  • Gemini is at capacity right now, and Google simply doesn’t have enough GPUs available to meet demand. GPUs are hard to come by and expensive, and the demand for both GPUs and AI applications that need them is very high.
  • You may be using a free version of their API, which may have low usage limits, or just put you at the back of the queue for in case capacity is tight. Paying Google to get premium access to their AI APIs could help solve this.

The API itself is fine, it’s just at capacity, which is something many AI companies are struggling with.

Maybe you can find out more if this is a capacity issue or a fair use issue, and then decide accordingly. Either pay Google for the API, wait for the capacity to improve, or use a different AI provider.

Finally I found a way to lock my Surface Go’s CPU frequency at 100% of max frequency (1.6 GHz)

The system feels much snappier ngl, it used to drop frequency to something like 660 MHz

The power consumption is not an issue, after all the max power is 6W, when running at 1.6 GHz it will still only takes like 1W when you are not doing anything
