At this point are we just going to assume that any post with more than 4-5 paragraphs was made by ChatGPT?
I just look for overcomplicated context and for unusual words for a post to be AI-generated (but mostly overcomplicated context is what triggers my AI detection message to be sent as well); that seems to work fine in my use case as Iām used to read AI-generated and human-written posts and could distinguish between them.
So a customer comes into my shop in a panic because they have broken their laptop USB 3 port and they are flying out of the country the same day
I suggested that the quickest thing would be to buy a USB hub and plug that into the remaining good port but they insist on fixing the broken port
So I take it in and remove the motherboard and then discover that all the ports I have are either too short, too long or too fat !
original mangled port
I let the customer know that I donāt have the part and it will take 2-3 days to order one, he begs me to try anything so I decide to see what I can do
First I remove the inner part from the shell of one of my ports
I then dig out the pieces of the customers broken port from its shell
Then trim my port a little with a scalpel and super-glue it into the customers shell
Solder it onto the motherboard and test it
There you wouldnāt even know it was Frankensteinās USB port
Phew glad that is done, now back to normal repairs
Iāll have to get something of that kind - itās frustrating always having to work on paper due to the hardware I have always falling short. I did have a tablet, but they never provided new drivers for more recent machines and it became useless. What I most want though is software that lets you draw a line and then grab hold of it and drag parts of it around until itās exactly the right shape. I hate having to delete and redraw hundreds of times for each stroke of a drawing.
Another solution would be software that lets you draw multiple lines for each stroke and average them into a single line such that you can modify it by adding more and more lines with exaggerated deformities to steer the average in the right direction until the result is exactly how you want it.
I admire that, it looks really cool and fun! I guess under time restrictions and pressure, it might not be, but nevertheless a really cool tutorial.
TIL Javascript has private properties for classes and has had them for quite a while now
I vaguely remember hearing about/using them, but I may just be fooling myself. Either way, itās great because now I can actually use proper semantics, which looks and functions a lot better.
I hope you didnāt cry while soldering the metal frame (ground), because superglue acts like tear gas when it gets hot
Itās also neat - I donāt see anywhere that the white spots have come through from the glue
Many can do it or have a specific tool within them that has these qualities
inkscape is a great free vector drawing package will allow to to adjust anything you draw as its all stored as coordinates instead of pixels
and also because of this you can zoom in infinitely without losing quality
Heh yeah it does but Iāve done it so many times over the years that Iām used to it
Thatās a step in the right direction, but still clunky and slow. I can see why itās done that way, but I want to be able to drag any part of a line to the side and have a stretch of the line adjust position more directly, doing this wherever necessary along the line. I can see that this could lead to an increased amount of data needing to be stored unless some complex maths runs to simplify it down while effectively retaining the same line shape, but then the same applies to any freehand line, so Iām surprised they canāt already handle it.
However, a lot of the problemās actually caused by my touchscreen not being accurate enough to get a line right, whereas when working on paper itās much easier to nail it. One of those proper tablets might solve the problem, so Iād love to try one out, but canāt afford to make a mistake by buying the wrong one.
Free then; Iāll give it a go. Thanks for pointing me towards it.
You actually want to fix your hair using that tool?
Does that tablet have a stylus pen?
It would be much more useful for you when drawing
That was just a quick sketch on a scrap of paper that came out looking like me as a child, so I use it as my avatar in multiple places. My hair was always an uncontrollable mess, so the picture doesnāt look wrong.
As for a stylus pen, I donāt know if my computer would handle that any better than it does a normal stylus which it frequently misreads, putting lots of jagged bumps into almost every line. It would be safest just to buy a dedicated device like the one lovebug bought, so Iāve stuck it on my wishlist at Amazon to watch the price rise and fall.
I started out with one of these, they are made by the same company HUION as the new tablet I just posted about
Although it has a small drawing area I made most of my art so far on this and it is an excellent little tablet and at only Ā£20 its worth buying
the advert says 3 programmable buttons but there are 2 extra programmable buttons on the pen making a total of 5
some of my art was done on my laptop trackpad and most done on the huion but all of it is pretty bad but thats me and not the devices used
Thatās a good plan then: Iāll get the Android-compatible version of that so that I can use it out and about as well as in the house, and then invest in one of the more expensive models later.
@linguist according to this page huion have a few different models that are compatible to android and although it does talk about phone mode Iām sure the same applies to android tablets too
I wouldnāt call your art bad, by the way: itās clearly of a high enough standard for professional illustration. Just a pity that AI art is wiping out most jobs in that sector. But when you know exactly what you want and canāt get it from AI, thatās where your skills retain their value. Iām just trying to do simple black ink illustrations for a middle-grade book, and a cover in watercolour which Iāll likely build part by part before combining the pieces in Photoshop, but if I can find a way to get the same look using painting software on a PC, I might do it that way instead.
thanks
I current use solid colors and a felt tip pen tool but I would really like to learn how to use brushes and proper use of shadows and colors so I bought that new tablet with the screen so I can get serious (hopefully)
Good luck with your art, I love watercolor painting and Iām hoping that a close approximation to it will be possible with my tablet and the right brush settings
Iām currently using krita art editor (its free) and it looks like water color style is possible
