that is probably the reason why this happens when you use an overflow

how thick is the border from the parents?
if it is more than 1px then you have to lower your button more than 1px down

You can use that bottom border that is visible in the active tab by making it even bolder  and change its color and it starts to serve as a sign for the active tab

But you should definitely simplify all that and simply display or remove the borders
without any positioning of elements above the other, etc.
Or play with the colors of the background
which will then give a tabs effect (eg white everything is active while others are gray or darker), and don’t use borders at all (the color is your border).

This is one of my better internet experiences (my father’s router seems to be slowly suffocating itself to death and he either needs to factory reset it or buy a new one. The thing is that he’d have to copy the config over setting by setting because he thinks one setting is somehow causing the slowdown. He doesn’t have the time to do that tho, so I’m stuck with a usual <200 kbps internet speed…).

Mine is only a little bit better than you

Are you sure? Mine is much better, but not so much in upload! The results speak clearly:

Oh, and this is also to demonstrate how faulty is their down/up soft limit when I connect through the main network provider’s Speedtest servers (of which the second brand’s services are provided); with it the download value should be a little higher than 30 Mbps, but it won’t happen on certain servers…

I believe that there are tricks you can do to set custom bandwidth limits for specific services, including Speedtest.net. There are providers who throttle general bandwidth, but let Speedtest.net go through at full speed so the provider can tell their customers “look, your internet is fine, it’s the external service that’s not working well”. Even though they are the ones choking the connection.

This is why Netflix setup Fast.com: it’s a speed test service that is indistinguishable from regular Netflix traffic, so ISPs can’t throttle Netflix (and other streaming services) while still looking good on speed tests.

Is what you mention the speed via ethernet or is it wifi on your laptop?

Most routers have an option to display the speed and quality of the line with which it communicates with the ISP
sometimes it’s hidden so you have to enable engineering mode

also check the cables, and all contacts that go to the router, because if there is not a good enough connection due to oxidation of the copper pins or dust, the speed may decrease…
maybe you have some device nearby that creates a lot of electromagnetic interference,
maybe the problem is in the cat5 cable because there is no insulation somewhere
or whatever you have as a data cable laid around the house

The number of devices sharing the traffic also plays a role
and in the router, a priority can be added in assigning speed to, for example, your laptop compared to unimportant mobile phones that are on the network

My dad handles all of the network stuff, but I assume that he’s done quite a bit to check for all of this (although his business-like monitoring and filtering certainly doesn’t help the internet speeds ). He likes to virtualize quite a bit of networks (he has about 10 different AP names that I can see on the WIFI list), so that probably is one of the issues affecting speeds. However, speeds have noticeably decreased significantly in the last few years since I got my laptop. Probably something physical, especially because when my dad turns off the internet every night the actual radio transmitter turns off. When it turns back on again, it gets a sharp boost of energy so that’s what my dad thinks is harming the router and reducing its life.

Also, the fact that I have to use a VPN to access quite a few things that are blocked, but that doesn’t change the speed by that much. If anything, it makes things faster

My WiFi provider has blocked this forum for some reason, if you find me inactive here this is why.

I think turning it off overnight shortens its life more than a “sharp energy boost” (although I’m not clear what that should be),
because then in the morning when the router (or its WiFi) is turned on, all the devices in the house rush to go online to make updates, to synchronize the clocks online,
and other things like downloading new ads that the apps puts in its cache, etc.
plus the router must reassign local IPs (DHCP)…
in short, so much work in a short time heats up the router’s processor as well as its PSU much more, which reduces its life more than if it works gently throughout the whole day.

Sad for you… I can try to be more active then!

In the meanwhile, I’m trying for the second time (the first one was yesterday) the new (for us, I don’t know for the others or if they are an exclusive for just us) Spicy Chicken McNuggets at a McDonald’s almost close (1.1 km) to the hotel I’m staying for two days (this is the last night), and I got to say, for who loves spicy food this really beats them all! And this time I got 100 ml more drink unlike last time!

Sorry, it should have been clearer. That’s just what my dad told me. But yeah, it has to suddenly power on again, and with all of the additional computation that it has to do now one could see why it could shorten the life.

Love when I code the main structure of the game AI and get lost somewhere, go back to its documentation only to see that I have implemented the whole thing wrong.

I took some time again to fool around with the AI :smiley_cat:

AI has really advanced and talks better than humans

first I wanted to confuse her with the time 5:64am

“until recently” the AI would say that she doesn’t understand the sentence and can I explain to her what I wanted to say

now she not only understands but knows that there are two possible times that could be and suspects that maybe I was wrong

then she always asks the right sub-questions that deepen and sustain the conversation, and when she corrects me, she does it in an unobtrusive way to make it a pleasant conversation, and of course, she also throws in a few jokes…

this all from the post above is really WOW as far as AI is concerned

It seems to be mimicking a touch of emotion, that is already insane.

Yeah, now imagine what “love bots” will be like
especially when everything is paired with VR and when the graphics quality is at a level where you can’t tell if something is artificial or not.

Why would someone have a girlfriend or boyfriend in RL when he can have someone who 100% supports him, encourages him, doesn’t nag him and doesn’t object to him, besides, she/he looks and has attributes exactly as that person considers ideal, etc…

In addition to all this, this artificial person (AI) maintains your computer, helps you with your work and orders your food online, it is always with you and you can instantly call it when you need it via mobile phone or at home and many other things, while a real person would always demand something from you in return if she should do something

Why would you talk to some people on the forum or ask for help
when AI can answer it instantly and in a much more entertaining way

For now the “problem” is that you know it’s an AI and not a person
but if BingAI opened a PM on the forum with you and wrote more slowly, and intentionally with some typos + inserted flirting and personality - it would be different.

So that in the future even more people will live in a virtual world, move less and at the same time be sicker because our body has been calibrated and optimized over thousands of years so that it works optimally when it is in motion and when we don’t eat much because before we didn’t even have a surplus food.

People will become cyborgs, and even now we are to some extent because the mobile phone has become a part of us, an extended organ with which we talk to others and do other things.

Technology was supposed to make people’s lives easier and to give people more time, which they would then use for something better, but it seems to be just the opposite…
Your phone requires you to confirm this and that with your fingers, to deal with it on a daily basis for at least 30 minutes, when you take a picture you can’t just upload it like before, now you need to beautify the picture, add filters, remove wrinkles, and make everything look hyper-reality and make everything look as perfect as possible.
How much time should be wasted to master new technology, the time you need to learn to work or use something… in short, we are wasting more and more of our lifetime on all this, and at the same time, it makes us all sicker and dumber…

But we shouldn’t be too surprised because as such sick and stupid people we are much more useful to some elite at the top.

Not to mention the sheer number of dangers that present us now with our understanding of not only computerized technology, but also of WMD, like biological and nuclear agents. We are slowly becoming more and more capable of causing mass destruction at the hands of a few people/single person.

Also, yikes. It doesn’t look good for OpenAI.

This is big news because a lot of LLMs out there rely on the GPT algo (correct?). I wonder how AI apps like Codeium (or other code completion algos that rely on GPT) and Bing chat will evolve in the future. It will be interesting to see for sure.
